Somerset County Rainbow Baby Session
Many people ask me what is a Rainbow Baby. The simple definition is that a rainbow baby is a baby born shortly after the loss of a previous baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth or death in infancy. It can also describe the baby that arrives after turbulent period in parent’s lives, whatever the reason might be. This term is given to these special rainbow babies because a rainbow typically follows a storm, giving us hope of what’s to come. When one sees a rainbow, it does not mean the storm never happened but that something beautiful was created in the midst of the darkness and clouds.
NJ Rainbow Baby Photography Program
As a rainbow mommy myself, I’ve decided to offer 1 complimentary newborn photography session per month to an eligible family. It is my way of giving back . Since I do get a overwhelming number of applications, I randomly select the recipients of the session. My April rainbow mom was Kristen and her beautiful baby Halle Jo.
Kristin Journey to Becoming a Mom
My husband and I have been married for 11 years. When married for less than 2 years, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer and had a hysterectomy and chemo to save my life at age 27. We never had the ability to ever try for a baby. We waited years hoping the yearning for a child would go away, it never did. Recently, after being told I was likely in menopause, a full infertility work up found I still ovulate monthly.
Long story short, or maybe it is too late for that, we are expecting our baby via gestational carrier this April. While this is not a rainbow baby story, she is indeed a miracle.
I will never have a beautiful round belly to take photos of, nor the experience of growing a baby as this was taken from me years ago. Having these newborn photos taken of our baby girl would mean everything to us.
Somerset County NJ Rainbow Baby Session
Halle Jo was simply a dream. The cutest pink cheeks and perfect tiny lips. She also slept like a champ which always makes me happy. With the rainbow baby program parents receive 8 digital images, 3 of which are rainbow themed.
I’ve decided to try rainbow velvet balloons that I’ve ordered from Nelly Props all the way from Poland. I had Halle Jo hold the strings and I think the image turned out perfectly. I’ve also wanted to incorporate real flowers into this session. Since I have 2 giant magnolia trees growing in my backyard, I’ve decided to cut few branches and arrange the flower petals around Halle Jo. Love how the pink color of magnolia just pops on the pale pink blanket. Mustard set is one of my favorites and the color looked gorgeous against Halle Jo’s skin. Honestly I think she could pull off any color of the rainbow 🙂
