I did this newborn photo session with Carter just about two weeks after his birth. He was such a cutie and did a fantastic job for me!
Session Planning
Carter’s mom, Michelle, reached out to me about doing this newborn photo session before her little guy arrived. She mentioned that his nursery was celestial themed, and emailed me some photos of pictures from my site that she liked. It’s always helpful when clients give me a very specific idea of what they want out of a photography session. Not only does it ensure that they’ll get what they’re looking for, but it makes the session very streamlined. I’m able to gather props and appropriately colored outfits that people can choose from when they arrive at the studio, and it makes everything very quick and easy.
Carter’s Newborn Photo Session
Rather than use sun, moon, and star props, we decided to use color to bring out the celestial theme of this little boy’s nursery. Blue for the sky, gray for the clouds, and yellow for sunshine!
We also used several forest-themed props: a stuffed animal bear and fox for Carter to snuggle, some cute hats with bear ears, and fur throws. The photos from the session turned out so colorful and cute! Michelle had also mentioned that she liked the use of swaddling blankets for baby photography, so we did several swaddle shots.
Carter was adorable and even smiled for me in his sleep a couple of times! I think he enjoyed the session as much as I did.
