There are a wide variety of newborn photography styles available to choose from. The style you choose will be unique to you and reflect your personality. I encourage clients to look at lots of newborn photographs to figure out what they like so I can incorporate their personal style into my photo shoot. A popular trend–but one destined to stay in fashion–is natural and timeless newborn photos.
There are several elements to creating natural and timeless newborn photos. Let’s take a look at just a few:
Soft, neutral colors are beautiful, simple, and elegant. Cream, white, gray, blue, and brown are perfect choices for a natural look. These colors don’t distract from the main subject. Instead, they provide support and highlight exactly what we want to focus on. They are also flexible enough to be used for both boys and girls.
Classic textures include lace, wood, cotton, and woven materials like yarn. When used in the right color, floral patterns and fluffy or furry textures can also be timeless.
Subjects and groupings can reinforce a natural and timeless look. Family or sibling shots, for example, capture the forever bonds that tie us together over generations. Relationships may change over time, but you will always be family!
If you’d like to use props in your newborn photography session, choose those with an old-fashioned feel. Cribs, buckets, and baskets are great choices that are especially well suited for baby pictures. Outfits that incorporate lace, ribbons, or woven fabrics will look wonderful with these types of props.
